We live and work on land that is the traditional home of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and Neutral People. This land within the Haldimand tract is promised to the Six Nations and takes in six miles on each side of the Grand River. We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. We also recognize the contributions Indigenous peoples have made in shaping and strengthening this community. We are grateful for the opportunity to live and work here and re-affirm our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our community. This Queensland Government initiative was celebrated for the first time in August 2016. With events and activities statewide, it was the state’s largest celebration of our multiculturalism.
The event will also include live stand-up comedy performances, panels, conversations and master classes, as well as digital screenings of studio and network films and television content in the comedy genre. The festival will culminate with “Black Comedy Live,” a global pay-per-view special featuring top headline comics. “Although we’re running much smaller events to keep people safe, there’s still plenty for people of all ages to enjoy. It’s a real celebration of the diversity of our town.”

Recognize holidays and events relating to a variety of cultural and ethnic groups. Pressure the local media organizations to develop and enforce policies for hiring staff from different racial and ethnic background. Learn about your community (e.g., what groups live there, what has been the nature of their relationships, what incidents have occurred in the past due to racial prejudice or racism). While we try not to moralize on the Community Tool Box, let’s face it – racial prejudice and racism are just plain wrong. If racial prejudice is not reduced, it could lead to racism, and if racism is not addressed, it could lead to more prejudice.

Refugees and other new Queenslanders start and support small business that contribute millions to our economy every year.
